Fire & Knives

As a result of my taste and various internships at independent bespoke places, there is no doubt that naturally I would be drawn to STACK magazine subscription which I have had since June.

This month I received two magazines and was lucky enough to have 'Fire and Knives' with me for company at work today. This beautiful publication is as satisfying as a hearty three-course meal, with its illustrations by Esther Aarts and MH Jeeves, alongside images from 'Mrs Marshall's Book of Moulds' and menus for George Perry-Smith's The Hole in the Wall. The subject matter is varied within the realms of food writing, articles on a Canadian poet and his ode to a large cheese, the rise and fall of railway catering and figurative food. The design is impeccable but there is substance as well as style. I was completely absorbed by each piece of writing.

It is published quarterly and available from here...

Rosie's badge

So this is how it looks on. I turned 25 yesterday, and I felt relatively calm in comparison to other years, two cakes, useful presents (time will be spent reading about ghosts and planets), a happy mummy and a trip to see Millie and Natalie in Tunbridge Wells.

Helen Frik Installation at Chapter

Helen Frik will be exhibiting 'Difficult' at Chapter Gallery in Cardiff, which will run from 2 April - 9 May 2010, which will feature the installation 'Higher Up, Where to'. The installation required artists to produce 200 handmade toys. I attempted to make a hot air balloon, which ended up being a bit of a disaster. Instead I made a toy magpie, since I've managed to learn how to cope with a sewing machine in the past few weeks.

Rosie's 25th

Rosie turned 25 this weekend and I made her these...an owl card and a bulldog brooch, secured on with a safety pin. Considering making these round brooches on request, so if you would like one get in touch.
