Wool House - Somerset House

I went to the 'Wool House' exhibition put together by the Campaign for Wool at Somerset House a couple of weeks ago to have a look around. There was a pixel-like carpet runner by Cristian Zuzunaga, rooms created by designers such as Donna Wilson and Josephine Ryan, Shauna Robertson's Bear, Jason Collingwood working in residence and tapestries by Dovecot Studios. It was definitely a warm, inspiring exhibition on a cold March day.

'Sow' - Floral Press

I did some black and white drawn illustrations for a MA Publishing project. The project 'Bloom' comprises of three books - Sow, Bloom and Wilt. I did four drawings for the first book 'Sow' which has four stories based on the beginning of love. You can see all four drawings on my website here.

Prototype Magazine - Issue 5

Cover Image - Illustration by Josh Clifford.

I've got an illustration along with a short interview about my work in Prototype Magazine - Issue 5 on sale here. The issue theme was 'Transformation' so I went with the idea of costume as transformation from some drawings I made at the British Museum in the Egyptian section. My 'Food Fight' and Walworth Road embroideries were also included.

Progress In Work III - Good Stories

On the 5th, 6th and 7th of April I will be participating in 'Progress in Work III' at Utrophia in Deptford with Tim Spooner and Stephen Fowler.

I'm looking for 'good stories' of Deptford to build up a collection, written and scribbled. I will be creating embroideries inspired by these stories. If you would like to participate and live in Deptford or have a link to it, please send me an email and I can forward you a template to print out, write and draw on.

I'll be updating this blog with more on details on the residency and glimpses of what I'm sent in

Ceramic experiments

I've been trying out a few things in my Ceramics class. Stamps, coloured clay inlay and impressing lino into clay for decorative effect. Here are a few tester pieces. I'm going to make a few pieces using lino cuts I made of Bologna and Wales to practice decoration with them.

The Great Outdoors - Embroideries

1. Heygate Ladies

2. Coldharbour Lane

3. Wendy

These are the three embroideries I created for 'The Great Outdoors' exhibition. I took walks and bus journeys around where I was living in Camberwell, photographing people and then making drawings of them. I wanted to capture quiet moments of ‘The Great Outdoors’ in an urban environment. There’s a lot going on, people going to East Street market, waiting for the 185 to Victoria, trying to avoid male harassment in the street or bumping into an old friend. I documented the hustle and bustle of Walworth Road, the area around Camberwell Green and Coldharbour Lane on my walk home to Southwell Road. I have created three embroideries, one from each of these journeys.

The Great Outdoors - Pictures

Here are a few pictures of my work installed at Nest Gallery's 'The Great Outdoors' exhibition at the Department of Coffee and Social Affairs on Leather Lane which closed this weekend.
